About
There is an interesting history behind Clifton Scientific. It was started in the 1960′s by Elliott Clifton who had been a consultant, both on staff and independently, for companies in the meat packing industry. After deciding that he wouldn’t play the unethical games necessary to climb the corporate ladder, he chose to start his own consulting firm which he named Clifton Scientific because of the scientific analysis needed to predict the changes in the futures trading market. Backed by faith, years of experience, a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Management, and a Bachelor of Science in Economics he walked through the small business door and never looked back. He was joined by his son Lee Clifton and then years later by his other son Lloyd Clifton. Tragically, Elliott Clifton passed away from widespread cancer in 1988. Due to the agriculture market fallout in the early 1980′s and the long battle Elliott had been fighting with cancer, Clifton Scientific once an industry leader had fallen on hard times and was not producing the revenue needed to keep the company running without sacrificing the quality the Clifton’s believed was the foundation of the company their father started. Lee and Lloyd dissolved what was left of Clifton Scientific and moved on to other projects in their lives. Lee settled in Dallas, Texas moving into management and, Lloyd stayed in Harrison, Arkansas moving on to lead quality control teams.
In 2007, almost 20 years from the passing of Elliott Clifton, his grandson, also named Elliott, decided that Clifton Scientific lay dormant long enough. Having provided services in the information technology field for the better part of a decade to Fortune 500 clients, educational and academic institutions, and the 2004 national Presidential campaign, the younger Elliott chose a new relevant focus for the new Clifton Scientific. It is now an information technologies company, still scientific in nature, which focuses on what Elliott calls “Big Picture Technologies” as well as providing the quality that the Clifton Scientific name was built upon to the home user and corporate clients alike.
“Big Picture Technologies” is a guiding principle and philosophy which explains why technology as we know it and technologies we can conceive of are so important and relevant in our lives. It is really a way of integrating, or more to the point, applying the technologies within our daily lives, and not just having technology for technology’s sake. Nothing wrong with having something that is cool and fun, but how can we take it and apply it in our lives and make it relevant. That is the key – how do we harness the technologies we have built and make them truly relevant to the point where they enhance – or change our lives. “Big Picture Technologies” is training ourselves to become the visionaries we are and create the realities we want.
